In October, Google closed Google+ after a user data leak. However, the addition of a series of enhancements and new features to other company apps indicates that Google is still very interested in social networking. Specifically, Google Maps recently added a direct messaging feature for businesses, and now Google Search has added a new feature allowing users to add their own comments and reviews on Google search results.
The comment feature on new search results was discovered in the Google Search 8.55 teardown for Android. In previous beta app versions, Google also deployed and added the Your contributions section. In the latest beta app version, the URL for the feature is now activated, including tabs for Reviews and Comments.
It's highly probable that, in recent releases a few months ago, users could write their own reviews for movies, reality TV shows, books, etc., when accessing the Reviews tab in the Knowledge Panel.
The Comments feature is entirely new. The app support page includes a section 'Leave comments on Google Search,' providing detailed information about commenting on Google Search. However, currently, this feature is restricted and optimized for search results related to competitive sports.
Google allows users to add reviews on search results
Users can add their reviews and public comments through the new Comments feature in the Knowledge Panel, supported on both the web and the Google app. This new feature will be separated for viewers and commentators with various refined filters, including all comments or top comments.
Additionally, Google allows filtering comments, reviews, as well as pressing the Like/Dislike buttons and reporting inappropriate or offensive content. The company notes that anonymous ratings and comments may be ignored, and comments can be deleted from your contributions page with the option to delete multiple comments at once.
Finally, the Comments feature is currently limited and only available for search results related to specific competitive sports.
