Engadget reports that Google has just announced the shutdown of Google Trips, the travel planning app. Consequently, the app will disappear from the App Store and Play Store starting today. However, the features of Google Trips will not be completely erased but will be integrated into apps like Google Search and Maps
According to Google, the locations and reservations saved by users will still be available in the search section, as long as users are logged into their Google account. Additionally, users will soon have the option to add or edit notes through the travel portal on the search page, search for locations, and make reservations directly within the Maps app, even offline bookings.
The decision of the search giant to 'retire' the Google Trips app is not surprising, especially since the app's 'special' features are already integrated into web browsers or the Maps app. This provides users with more alternatives to use instead of Google Trips.
