Typically, companies reserve top-level domains for specific purposes, such as gaming or other forms of entertainment. Exciting news as Google unveils the top-level domain .dev, opening registration this February for 'developers, designers, writers, and architects.'

In addition to revealing the top-level domain (TLD), the search giant also introduces a few websites showcasing the features of the .dev domain. Among them, GitHub.dev provides a 'personal website builder' for users looking to kickstart their own projects, while Accessibility.dev focuses on practicalities, including product development timelines.

Additionally, all websites using the .dev domain will be required to use HTTPS for connections, ensuring user safety while browsing.

The new domain will officially open for regular registration on 28th February with a more stable fee structure. However, for early registration, users can opt to check and secure their domain as part of the Early Access Program starting today, with an additional, higher fee.
