Google has announced several new features added to the Chrome browser concerning tab management and performance. Some new features that were previously tested are now available in the Stable channel, including tab grouping and a more touch-friendly version deployed for Chrome OS users, along with the tab preview feature. Additionally, there are some enhancements for Chrome on Android.

At the forefront of the list of enhancements is a 10% improvement in tab performance. The company states that tab loading speeds have now become faster thanks to Profile Guided Optimization (PGO). Google will also introduce tab throttling feature to improve the performance of active tabs.
Tab grouping feature has also reached Chrome users in the Stable channel. This feature allows users to group tabs and name them for easier organization. Users can then move, collapse, and expand these tab groups.
Another feature is a smarter interface with touch interactions for tablet mode, announced by the company last April. The new UI brings a wider split-screen interface for tab preview function, making navigation easier with touch gestures. This feature will be initially rolled out for Chromebook and will also be available on laptops. However, it's unclear whether the new user interface will automatically adapt when the device switches to tablet mode or not.

In addition to the mentioned improvements, Google will also introduce tab previews feature to Chrome Beta. This feature is currently hidden behind a flag and displays thumbnails of content within tabs, instead of just the website names. Microsoft's Edge browser has already introduced this feature and it's also being added to Chromium-based Edge browser.
For Chrome on Android, the company is adding the ability to quickly switch between open tabs. A tab switch reminder icon will appear if users start entering a website address or title of an open tab.
Other enhancements include the ability to directly fill in and save PDF files on computers, making it easier to edit PDF files directly in the browser without relying on other applications. There are also improvements to URL sharing on phones and computers, including a new QR code generator tool for computers.
Most of the features announced with Chrome 85 will be released today. However, the rollout may be gradual, so it may take some time for all users to start seeing the update.
