Virtual Cards on Google Chrome
Google is collaborating with credit card networks Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Capital One to introduce a new system, initially available only in the United States before expanding to other markets.
The company states that this new initiative aims to enhance security when making direct payments through the payment gateway, bypassing the step of manually entering card details for each purchase, similar to contactless payment at physical stores, without requiring users to enter a PIN code.
Users can manage their virtual card details at pay.google.com, where they can activate/deactivate this feature for eligible cards, as well as view their virtual card numbers and track recent transactions.

The company also mentioned that virtual cards may become the most common method for one-time purchases and payments, but they can also be utilized for multiple or subscription-based transactions. Additionally, the company does not utilize any user data based on the use of virtual cards for advertising purposes.
The new virtual cards will be available through the Autofill feature on Chrome for PC (ChromeOS, Mac, Windows, and Linux), and will soon be introduced on Chrome for Android and iOS.
Depending on the card provider, users will have various options for different types of virtual cards. Google notes that Capital One members will receive separate virtual cards for use on each website, while Visa and American Express will use a single card across all websites but with a different CVV code for each use.
