In a recent post, Google declared that they are updating incognito mode on the Google Maps app for iOS users - a feature that has been introduced to Android users since October last year. According to the announcement, the update will be rolled out today. Google stated:
Google Maps introduces incognito mode on iOS and bulk delete on Android
- Download Google Maps for iOS. - Download Google Maps for Android.
Incognito mode on iOS works similarly to Android. When activated, the places you search for or navigate to will not be saved to your Google account and will not be personalized in the Maps app, such as suggesting new restaurants based on places you have previously eaten at. Incognito mode on mobile also will not update your Location History, so the places you visit will not be saved to your Timeline.
Google is set to introduce a batch deletion tool for their Android apps, allowing users to remove multiple locations from their timeline or location history simultaneously. Users can erase all location history or a portion of their timeline by filtering based on dates.
The batch deletion tool for Android apps will be released next year. In the meantime, users can utilize incognito mode if they wish to temporarily prevent Google Maps from recording their location history. iOS users can learn how to use Google Maps on iPhone here.
