Google states that the company is currently implementing this capability for Google Workspace customers. Starting today, meeting hosts or teachers will have two options when preparing to exit a video call: they can let other participants continue the call unsupervised or end the call for everyone at once.
Google Meet adds the feature to end all video calls for everyone in the meeting room
When you click on the end call button in a virtual meeting or online class, a dialog box will appear, displaying two options before you exit the video call. If you choose to end the call for all participants, including those in the Breakout Room, they will receive a notification indicating that they have exited the call.
Subsequently, the meeting host must rejoin the call first before other participants can return. Teachers can prevent previous class attendees from rejoining when they wish to meet with their students by initiating an entirely new video call.
Currently, this capability is only available to Workspace Education Fundamentals or Education Plus accounts. These are the new names for G Suite for Education and G Suite Enterprise for Education, as announced by Google in a rebranding last week. Google also plans to introduce this new feature to other Workspace editions in the coming months.
Meet also features a small group breakout function, making it easy for users to create small groups and interact with each other. If you're unfamiliar with this feature, you can learn more about it here.
