With the increasing demand for teleconferencing and online collaboration apps due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it's no surprise to see services beefing up their features to compete with others, especially Google Meet, which has shown a 25-fold increase in usage.
Now, users can download and experience the latest version of Google Meet - the newest video conferencing software at the link provided below:
Now, the search giant is providing additional information about the features for business and education customers of Meet. These features include Gmail integration. Google's CEO and Vice President of G Suite, Javier Soltero, said in an interview that this service has been 'adding users faster every day than any other Google service since January.'
Besides Gmail integration - with not much other information, Meet will display 16 people in a call, a feature similar to Zoom. Microsoft Teams is also bringing the ability to view 9 participants at once, albeit always being the latecomer. Soltero further added that Google's service will also improve video quality in low light conditions and reduce noise. The service will also add detailed controls to the screen sharing feature, where users will only be able to share a single tab in the Chrome browser - as opposed to the entire browser window to provide more privacy.
Although Zoom is witnessing a significant increase in usage, it is also facing intense reactions to security and privacy issues that have come to light. Google itself has banned the use of this service on company laptops. The additional capabilities for Meet are certainly a way for the Mountain View giant to increase its user base.
