The direct calling feature in Google Meet will support 1:1 chats within the Gmail application, allowing users to quickly call their colleagues without using URLs. Google states that when starting a 1:1 call, the recipient's phone will ring, and a notification will be sent to Gmail running in the web browser. Subsequently, the recipient can answer the call from the Gmail app on mobile or from the web browser.

Google plans to bring this feature to other Workspace apps in the future. Sanaz Ahari, Product Management Director at Google, said: 'Our goal is to bring Meet calling feature to all endpoints in Workspace, where you can start a call including chat, contacts list, and Spaces anytime, but this will primarily come to 1:1 chats in the Gmail app on mobile platforms.'

Another upcoming feature on Google Meet is the Companion mode. Expected to launch in November, this feature allows you to use your laptop as a second screen for video calls. You can use the second screen to share your screen, chat with others, participate in activities, and raise your hand.
In addition, Google is also preparing for the ability to translate meetings from English into French, German, Spanish, and Portuguese. The company will support more languages in the future.
