Starting from today, there is a new menu icon next to almost all search results. When clicked or tapped, it will display an information panel containing additional details about the website you are about to visit. These details include a brief description of the website taken from Wikipedia.

In cases where a website lacks a Wikipedia entry, Google will display information about the first time it indexed the website and other available data. JK Kearns, Google's Product Director, shares that additional information can help you 'make more informed decisions about which websites you want to access and which results will be most useful to you.'
In addition to providing additional information about the website, Google will also indicate whether your connection to that website is secure. This is indicated by using the HTTPS protocol instead of HTTP as before.
To differentiate search results from ads, Google will also display a brief line confirming that what you are seeing is the original search result. Finally, at the bottom of the dashboard, you will find links leading to your security settings and explanations about how search works.
This feature applies to English-language searches on mobile devices, computers, and the Google app for Android.
