According to Jane Wong - a renowned app researcher known for discovering new features before they're released - Google Photos may soon allow you to set profile pictures for your account directly from the app. An option named Set Profile Picture appears when you search for your name in the Photos app. Another way to access this feature is by going to albums in the app, selecting People at the top right corner of the screen, and then tapping on your name. However, if you search for other users, the Order Book button will appear instead.

Admittedly, changing your Google account profile picture isn't difficult nowadays. Any Google webpage allows you to change your profile picture from your account's dropdown menu, and there's also an option to select a photo you've uploaded to Google Photos. The Your Information section in your account settings also enables users to change profile pictures.
With this added capability, changing profile pictures will become more convenient for some, although many others are likely to continue using the existing profile picture options.
