After receiving reports of user tracking activities, Google removed over 70 extensions from the Chrome Web Store. This indicates a failure in the tech industry's efforts to protect browsers, which are increasingly used for sensitive tasks such as email, payroll, and other functions.

Scott Westover, spokesperson for the Mountain View company, stated: 'Upon being notified of extensions violating its policies in the online store, we took action and used those incidents as training material to improve both automated and manual analysis.'
Most of those extensions were created to alert users about malicious behavior on websites or to convert files from one format to another. In reality, they were used to illegally access browser history and login information for internal business tools.
According to Awake Security, it's unclear who is behind the distribution of the malware. The developers provided fake contact information when submitting these add-ons. Refer to How to Remove Add-ons in Chrome here, if you suspect any harmful extensions on your computer.
