The addition of the new Gmail security mode allows users, upon logging in, to have additional control and manage information for recalling sent emails and setting expiration dates for emails.
The Confidential Mode security feature operates with all email providers, securing emails containing sensitive content. Instead, recipients will receive a link to the actual email stored on Google's servers.
Self-destructing emails, blocking printing and forwarding
Additionally, users can send self-destructing emails to recipients, as well as block printing and forwarding for other users.
Google explains: 'Because senders can request additional authentication through text messages to view email content, this method also helps protect data even if the recipient's email account is compromised'.
With the assistance of the new security mode on Gmail, senders can configure their emails to prevent recipients from copying or downloading content or attachments.
How to use Confidential Mode security
G Suite admins can choose to enable or disable Confidential Mode for users before the feature is rolled out to all users on June 25th. This can be done by accessing Apps => G Suite => Settings for Gmail => User settings, and selecting options like Disable, Enable now (beta), or Enable when the feature is in general availability.
In addition, Google provides detailed guidance for G Suite users on safeguarding emails through Gmail Confidential Mode, sending and reading confidential messages, and utilizing Confidential Mode in Vault.
