While users could previously automate tasks through scripts, the new Macros in Google Sheets simplify this process significantly. Now, Google Sheets can automatically convert Macro actions into Apps Script, and Macros are designed to work with cloud-based files.
Google Sheets introduces Macros to streamline user workflows
But that's not all. If you want to edit Macros, you can tweak scripts to make changes easily. Alternatively, you can also import Action Script functions as new Macros.
Macros help you automate repetitive tasks, boosting work efficiency. Refer to how to create Macros in Excel here for guidance.
Google states:
'We aim to support companies in automating their workflows by approaching Macros in a different way: cloud-first. Starting today, users can record macros in Sheets. Suppose you need to format new input data or build the same chart across multiple quarterly data sheets. Performing repetitive steps takes up a lot of time, but Sheets' macro recorder allows you to record actions and replay commands without writing any code.'
The company also shares a video introducing the new macro support:
Additionally, Google has added some other features in Sheets, including new chart types, options for embedding new charts, and several other features. The company adds:
'We have also added additional frequently requested features, including the ability to break print pages, customize paper size, add more options for row and column groups, and how to add checkboxes in cells. Additionally, we also support users in grouping data by time frame (such as week, month, or year) when creating Pivot Tables.'
