Google has launched the real-time Transcribe feature for the Google Translate app for Android in January of this year. This feature allows users to use their smartphones to translate and transcribe spoken words being recorded by the phone's microphone in real-time. The search giant has announced that the feature is now beginning to roll out to all Android users. The company has also recently added new languages to Google Translate, bringing the total number of supported languages to 180.

Currently, Google Translate can directly translate 8 languages including English, French, German, Hindi, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish, and Thai. Users can translate any of these languages into another. The latest update brings a redesigned user interface, with 3 prominent icons appearing on the main screen: Camera, Conversation, and Transcribe.
Users can tap on the Transcribe icon, select the source and target languages, and start transcribing by tapping the mic icon. Transcription can be paused or resumed by tapping the mic icon. You can also view the original translation of the translation, with options to select text size or apply dark theme provided in the Settings menu.
The company says the app currently works best in quiet environments and with one speaker at a time. Google is planning to improve the feature over time and says the Conversation mode is still the best choice for translating back-and-forth conversations. Users can update to the latest version with the app's Transcribe feature in the coming days.
