Previously, translations for words like 'strong' or 'doctor' tended to lean towards masculine, while words like 'beautiful' and 'nurse' leaned towards feminine. Now, Google Translate or Google Dịch will display translations for both masculine and feminine with specific languages.
Google's goal is to advance AI and machine learning, as evidenced by recent initiatives such as removing gender pronouns from the Smart Compose feature on Gmail. Additionally, Google is working on addressing gender bias issues in translations and other products like search auto-complete suggestions.
Currently, gender-specific translations are available to translate single English words into other languages such as French, Italian, Portuguese, or Spanish. Translations from Turkish to English are the only language pair that provides both translations for sentences.
Furthermore, this feature currently only works on browsers like Chrome and Firefox on the web platform, but it is likely to be available on Android and iOS devices in the near future. Google announced that it will expand support for gender-specific translations to many other languages.
