Google is rolling out a redesigned sharing dialogue for Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Forms on the Web. The new sharing UI boasts a more visually appealing design, segregating controls for sharing content with individuals and groups, along with a section for copying links to documents. The company has announced that the new dialogue is gradually making its way to all its customers.
Updated sharing UI replaces the old dialog, offering both options in the same tab. The company claims this new design helps users easily 'perform common tasks, avoid random permission changes, and quickly see who has access to a file.' Three areas improved in the updated sharing dialogue highlighted by Google are:
- Segregated Interface, Task-Focused: The new sharing dialogue emphasizes crucial tasks like sharing files, changing permissions, and viewing file access. The design also visually separates sharing with individuals and groups from sharing links.
- Quick 'Copy Link' Button: An added link copy button allows users to swiftly grab links without altering permissions.
- Easy Visibility of Accessors: The new interface clearly displays those with access to the file, making it easy to check and modify permissions rapidly.
Additionally, the new design facilitates easy management of the user list with whom you've shared files or for links that can be shared. The search giant says this is aimed at reducing the risk of 'unwanted access' by making file sharing and permission management more straightforward. The neatly designed separate tabs aid in selecting specific actions.
The new sharing UI will start rolling out to all G Suite and Drive Enterprise customers, along with users having personal Gmail accounts. If you don't have one, create a Gmail account now.
