In December of the previous year, Google initiated the rollout of a new Interpreter mode, acting as a real-time translation feature for devices. Initially introduced on Android and iOS, this mode, with plans for compatibility with Smart Displays and smart speakers, is now expanding to hotels, airports, stadiums, and more. The expansion is a result of a new collaboration between Google and system integration companies Volara and SONify.

Furthermore, the Scheduled Actions feature is set to be released to enhance the support of virtual assistants with compatible smart devices. Essentially, this feature allows users to initiate or prevent the operation of devices at specific times. Google has also assured customers that they will provide support for more smart devices, such as August Smart Locks and Philips Hue HDMI Sync Box, in 2020. Scheduled Actions will be deployed this year, although the specific timeframe is not disclosed at this time.
In efforts to create a more cohesive experience for every family, Google Assistant is introducing Sticky Notes. These digital notes can be created and displayed centrally on Smart Displays, expected by the end of this year. Notably, family members who did not create the notes can view them without logging in. Additionally, important contacts will be integrated into family contacts, facilitating easy dialing through Smart Displays.
Google is actively improving speech technology through the virtual assistant, announcing the new Read It feature. This functionality allows Assistant to read requested web pages. While screen reading is not new, Google's development in this area aims to make the voice more expressive and natural. This feature supports 42 languages, and plans for automatic scrolling and text highlighting are in the works, coming soon.
Several new privacy controls for Assistant have been revealed. The first among these is the command 'Hey Google, that wasn't for you', preventing storage of any unintended perceptual communication with the virtual assistant when activated randomly. Another privacy command is 'Hey Google, are you saving my audio data?', allowing users to learn more about their private conversations with the virtual assistant and change their privacy settings directly from the relevant screen.
Finally, Google plans to expand Assistant support to more devices this year, including upcoming voice-enabled Samsung smart TVs and Android Auto-compatible cars. To assist TV companies in seamlessly integrating far-field microphones with their devices, Android TV has also been updated. As stated in the company's announcement, this is just the 'first look' at all the changes coming this year.
