The PiP feature on the Chrome browser originally only supported video playback. However, with the upcoming browser update, it will also support playing interactive HTML content in PiP mode, making multitasking more convenient for users.
How to Update PiP Mode on Chrome
The current project, known as PIP 2.0, aims to activate interactive HTML content within the PiP window. The concept of interactive content is subjective, and it's unclear how the Google giant plans to upgrade the picture-in-picture mode on Chrome. However, users can anticipate support for audio content, embedded content, iframes, images, and more.

In a post on Chromium, Google states that this is part of the 'chain' of new picture-in-picture features, allowing playback of arbitrary content in the window. Additionally, the new code on Chrome will 'hide the window frame and controls (after a delay) when the [PiP] window loses focus' and adds code when regaining focus.
New Web-based PiP Feature for Chrome
In the same document, Google uses the new term 'Web Picture-in-Picture window' to describe upcoming changes.
Although the upcoming changes sound intriguing, they may bring potential 'hidden' issues related to security and privacy, such as system user interface impersonation. Google is actively seeking solutions to address this matter. Additionally, the company will disable permission prompts and autofill features, along with other similar sensitive functions, and remove regular keyboard events to reduce the surface for Picture-in-Picture window attack vectors.
Alongside upgrades and enhancements to the PiP mode, Google is also rumored to be exploring additional design improvements for Chrome on Windows.
