Words and the Nails
A very hot-tempered and irritable boy received a bag of nails from his father one day. His father instructed him that every time he got angry or spoke harshly to someone, he should hammer a nail into the wooden fence behind the garden and reflect on his actions.
After the first day, the boy had hammered twenty-three nails into the fence. In the following days, he tried to control his anger, and the number of nails he hammered into the wall gradually decreased. He realized that keeping calm was easier than hammering nails.
One day, when he no longer needed to use any nails, he believed he had changed and was no longer as hot-tempered as before. He told his father about this, and his father made a suggestion: 'For each day you keep calm, pull out one nail from the fence, and you'll gain control over your emotions.'
Many days passed, and finally, the boy joyfully announced to his father that all the nails had been pulled out. The father led him to the fence and said:
- You did very well, my son! But look at the countless holes in that fence. This fence will never be as whole as before. The things you uttered in anger will leave wounds in others' hearts, just like these nail holes. No matter how many times you apologize, the wounds remain. Emotional wounds are difficult to heal and can only be mended with genuine and true love.

The Cactus
In ancient times, people were born, grew up, and remained youthful. When they lived a full life, they quietly passed away. All girls turned into flowers, and all boys transformed into large trees. At that time, the Earth was filled with various plants, flowers, and grass, but there was no cactus yet.
During that era, in a distant village, there was an orphaned girl, beautiful and graceful, but mute from birth. She lived a solitary life. Later, a carpenter married her, but he only lived with her for a few years before passing away, leaving her with a son.
The mother loved her son deeply, but due to excessive pampering, the son grew into a wayward person. He spent his days away from home, indulging in gambling and excessive drinking. The mute mother both cared for and shed bitter tears for her son.
One day, unable to bear the harsh fate any longer, the mother transformed into a leafless, thorny plant—the cactus. At that moment, her son finally awakened to the truth. Filled with remorse and shame, he wandered off and died along the way. Instead of becoming a tree, he transformed into scattered grains of sand, drifting aimlessly. Somewhere, the wind gathered these sand grains into an endless desert. Only the cactus could grow from the hot and barren sand.
Today, people say that deserts give birth to cacti. In reality, it is the cactus that births the scorching desert. The loving heart of a mother for her wayward child sprouted on the hot sands, making the desert less desolate.
