This comprehensive guide will walk you through the process of sending money using the Zelle app. If your bank offers Zelle services and you've already installed your bank's mobile app, you can opt to utilize your bank's Zelle transfer functionality instead of following this article.
Essential Information
- If you haven't already, download the Zelle app onto your smartphone.
- Initiate the money transfer process by selecting 'Send' within the Zelle app.
- Select the recipient, input the desired amount, and review the transfer details.
Procedure
- To locate the Zelle app, simply search for 'Zelle' in the search bar located at the top of your screen in the Google Play Store or in the search tab at the bottom of your screen in the App Store. The app is developed by 'Early Warning Services, LLC.'
- Whether or not your bank utilizes Zelle, you can still create a Zelle account. Should your bank or credit union be a Zelle partner, you can skip the account creation process. Upon opening Zelle for the first time, you'll be prompted to either log in with existing credentials or create a new account. Creating an account requires basic contact details, a U.S.-based credit or debit card (such as an American Express card), and your email address and phone number. Once you've inputted this information, you can proceed to create your account and commence sending and receiving money via Zelle.
Launch Zelle. Look for the app icon, resembling a 'Z' with a line traversing it, akin to a dollar symbol ($), on one of your Home screens, within your app drawer, or through a search. If you're currently in the app store, you can directly tap Open to access the Zelle app.
Tap Send. This option should be visible near the top of your screen.
- If this is your initial usage of the app, grant it permission to access your contact list.
Select a recipient to send money to. You also have the option to add a new recipient by entering their email address or phone number in the designated area at the top of your screen.
- You may need to choose between sending funds to their email or phone number if they have separate accounts linked to each.
- If the recipient has Zelle, they'll receive a notification of the money sent; if not, they'll be prompted to create a Zelle account.
Enter the amount you wish to send. Utilize the keypad to input the desired amount you intend to transfer. Different banks impose varying limits on single transactions, so it's advisable to check with your bank if you plan on sending substantial sums. However, if you haven't connected your Zelle account to a bank or credit union, you're not subject to these restrictions.
Tap Review and then Send. This action transfers the designated amount to the recipient. The recipient will receive a notification (via text message or email) informing them of the Zelle payment they've received. Once the payment is sent, cancellation is only possible if the recipient does not possess a Zelle account.
- To cancel a payment in such a scenario, access your Zelle activity page, select the payment you wish to cancel, and tap Cancel Payment.
