Guide to Getting from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Downtown Bangkok

Suvarnabhumi Airport.
In Bangkok, there are two airports: Suvarnabhumi and Don Muang. Unlike Don Muang, which has been in operation for a long time, Suvarnabhumi is a relatively recent addition. Suvarnabhumi Airport was newly built to meet the increasing demand of Thailand's growing tourist population. Nowadays, almost all tourists to Thailand touch down at Suvarnabhumi Airport.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport to downtown Bangkok, it's approximately 30km. Suvarnabhumi Airport's terminal has four floors and a basement. Arrivals are on the 2nd floor, Departures on the 4th. The 3rd floor houses upscale restaurants and convenient stores. You can also find the airport police station on the 3rd floor.

Taxi
Taxi is a convenient mode of transportation from Suvarnabhumi Airport to downtown Bangkok due to its 24/7 availability. Head to the taxi pickup area on the 1st floor, where a modern automatic taxi dispatch system awaits. Press the button, and the machine will provide you with a receipt indicating your taxi queue number and registration. Once it's your turn, present the receipt to the driver and let them know your destination.

Please note that you should have Thai Baht in small denominations for the taxi fare. Ensure the meter is running when you board, and be prepared for additional fees. Additionally, you'll need to pay tolls for highway usage. In general, taxi fares are higher than the Airport Rail Link and bus, making it suitable for those with a more generous budget or traveling in a large group.

Ride-hailing services (Grab, etc.)
Similar to Vietnam, Grab is widely used in Thailand, allowing you to easily hail a ride. They offer fixed prices for airport rides directly through the app. Grab Car and Grab Taxi, available on the Grab app, provide various car options, including Standard and Premium (Grab Car Plus) with prices ranging from 400 - 600 Baht (approximately 270,000 - 400,000 VND).

Many independent travelers appreciate these services as drivers are more accountable. With real-time tracking via the app and GPS monitoring of your journey, it's easy to determine if you're being taken on a detour. When you book a Grab, the driver will pick you up on the 2nd floor, eliminating the need to wait on the 1st-floor taxi stand.
