In the previous article, Mytour instructed mothers on making yogurt from formula milk. Today, Mytour will guide mothers on making yogurt from mother's milk!
For mothers blessed with abundant milk supply, faced with fridges filled with stored milk bags without knowing what to do. Using mother's milk to make yogurt for baby's consumption is a highly effective method, helping babies to gain essential nutrients without wastage.

Ingredients:
- 200ml mother's milk
- 1 box of unsweetened yogurt
- 2 teaspoons of sugar.
Instructions:
Sterilize mother's milk by heating until it reaches a temperature of 80°C, without letting it boil completely. Sterilization deactivates Lipase enzyme found in mother's milk, preventing a soapy smell when frozen. Don't worry about nutrient loss as the enzyme is destroyed within 5 seconds without affecting the nutritional content.
Note: Do not heat milk in the microwave.
Then quickly cool the heated milk to around 45°C by placing it in cold water. This temperature is crucial for successful yogurt fermentation. While waiting for the milk to cool, remove the yogurt from the fridge to bring it to room temperature.
Mix 4 tablespoons of yogurt with 2 teaspoons of sugar into mother's milk and gently stir.
Pour the stirred milk into small glass jars.
Note: Sterilize the jars very carefully.
Place the yogurt-filled jars in a styrofoam box in warm water at 40 – 50°C for 4 – 8 hours.
Note:
- The duration of yogurt fermentation depends on how you want your yogurt to turn out. If fermented for 4 – 6 hours, the yogurt will be sweet and runny. The longer the fermentation, the thicker and tangier the yogurt.
- Do not ferment the yogurt for more than 12 hours.
- Do not open the styrofoam box to check. Frequent checking will reduce the water temperature, making yogurt fermentation difficult.
After fermentation, put the yogurt in the fridge for storage.
Yogurt made from breast milk may not be appealing to adults in taste, but it contains high levels of iron and other essential nutrients, making it suitable for your little one. Additionally, you can blend yogurt with apples, peaches, avocados, and pumpkins.
Wishing all mothers success!
