For any file or folder that is no longer usable due to file errors, or perhaps you no longer need it, you should delete it. However, sometimes when you press Delete, you can't get rid of them, and of course, we have to 'Skip' to bypass it. Here is a guide on deleting any file and folder on Windows quickly, simply, and that you can use.
Delete stubborn folders on win 7, 10, 16, 19 quickly and easily
I. Guide to Deleting Files and Folders on Windows
The reason is that the file has been configured to require administrator privileges to delete. This means you need to have Administrator rights (the highest level of computer rights) to delete the file, and, of course, you can activate this Administrator account if needed. If you are using Windows 7, you can refer to how to enable the Administrator account on Windows 8 here.
And the method to enable the Administrator account on Windows 10 is for those who are using the latest operating system. However, there is still another way, as outlined below.
Note: Sometimes, Windows may mistakenly interpret the permissions to delete your folders, but you should also pay attention to these limitations. For example, the addins folder mentioned above is a system folder that you should not delete, and Windows has restricted the rights accordingly.
II. How to Delete Any File and Folder on Windows
Step 1: Navigate to the folder you want to delete on Windows (in this example, C:\Windows\addins). Right-click on the folder, choose Properties => Security tab =>Advanced.
Step 2: In the Advanced Security Settings window, click Change next to the Owner's name.
Step 3: In the Select User or Group window, enter the Windows account login email in the Enter the object name to select section.
If you don't remember the email, click Advanced, in the new window select Find Now, and then double-click on your Windows account name in the search results.
- Once done, you will return to the previous window with the email address filled in the Enter the object name to select section. Click OK.
- After that, you will return to the Advanced Security Settings window. Check Replace owner on subcontainers and objects. This option will give you full rights to edit and delete all files and folders on Windows. Click OK to apply the changes (if you don't click OK, you will have to start over from the beginning).
Step 4: Navigate to the folder you want to delete, right-click and select Properties.
Step 5: Switch to the Security Tab and choose Advanced.
Step 6: In the Advanced Security Settings, select Add.
Step 7: In the Permission Entry window, choose Select a principal at the top. Enter the Windows login account email again in the Enter the object name to select section as in Step 3. Then press OK.
Step 8: When back in the Permission Entry, check Full control and press OK.
Step 7: In the Advanced Security Settings window, click OK to apply all changes. Now you can delete that stubborn folder!
The above guide is one of the most comprehensive methods to gain full control over files and folders on your computer. This permission allows you to delete Windows.old, the previous installed version of Windows, and other types of junk files on your machine. However, you must be careful not to accidentally delete system files or folders. If unsure, it's advisable to backup data in case of accidentally deleting files causing system errors.
Of course, afterward, you can easily restore your computer data and be more cautious when deleting files.
