When sending a considerable number of vinyl records abroad, the primary concern is ensuring they are packed securely to prevent damage from postal machinery or rough handling during transit. The following instructions detail how to provide adequate cushioning for the records to reach their destination unscathed.
Steps to Follow
Cross two pieces of bubble wrap, each as wide as the records and three and a half times as long. Position 20-22 records on the center where the two pieces of bubble wrap intersect.
Fold the bubble wrap over the records and secure it with tape.
Craft four cardboard pieces measuring about 4' x 6' (10cm x 15 cm). Fold and secure them twice to form robust corner guards.
Insert the bubble-wrapped records into the mailer, placing the four protective corners snugly.
Use newspaper to fill any remaining gaps within the mailer.
Seal the mailer securely with ample tape.
Additional Advice
Ensure the parcel is packed tightly; when tapped, it should sound like a ripe watermelon.
For shipping vinyl records overseas using USPS M-Bags, you can place up to five parcels weighing up to 66 lbs / 30kg in one bag (US only).
