Guide: Rooting and Installing Recovery on LG G2

Whether desired or not, rooting remains an essential procedure for a new Android phone, especially for the LG G2, when one seeks to customize an interface that may not be very user-friendly, particularly in areas where the Navigation Bar occupies significant space.

This article focuses solely on rooting and installing Recovery on the LG G2 official version in Vietnam. For the Korean version, additional guides will be provided in subsequent articles.

1. Root LG G2 Guide

Step 1. Download and install drivers for Windows: D802 driver link.

Step 2. Activate Developer Mode by navigating to Settings -> General -> About Phone -> Software Information -> tap 'Build number' eight times.

Step 3. Navigate to 'Developer options' and enable 'USB Debugging'.

Step 4. Download the following zip file, extract it on Windows (save it anywhere). Zip link: iozoot10.zip

Step 5. Connect LG G2 to your computer and run the root.bat file. A cmd window will appear, press any key to continue.

Step 6. Please note that at this point, a notification prompt will appear on your G2 requiring authentication. Click OK to proceed.

Step 7. Return to the cmd window on Windows; at this point, the device will automatically perform actions and pause at a notification as shown below.

Step 8. As per the notification, it's time to unplug the cable. Navigate to 'Developer options' on your G2 and deselect 'USB Debugging'. After deselecting, reselect this option and then reconnect the G2 to the computer. Press any key to continue.

Step 9. The rooting software on Windows will prompt for confirmation once again. Disregard and press any key to continue the rooting process.

Step 10. Congratulations! You have successfully rooted your device in 10 steps, but the process is quite swift.

2. Installing Recovery (Permanent Recovery)

- Download Recovery.

- Upon extraction, you'll find files named 'recovery.lok' and 'g2_security''. Copy these two files into the internal memory of your LG G2.

- Install 'TerminalEmulator.apk'' on your G2 as usual. Once installed, open it and enter the following commands one by one.

dd if=/sdcard/recovery.lok of=/dev/block/platform/msm_sdcc.1/by-name/recovery
 
rm /sdcard/g2_security
 
reboot recovery

- Voilà! You now have a permanent recovery. To access it next time, completely power off your device. Then, press the power button and volume + until two white lines appear. Quickly press volume – to enter.
