Learn how to email audio files efficiently. For large files, uploading to a cloud service like Google Drive is recommended.
Steps to Follow
Direct Method: Attaching Audio Files
Follow these steps: First, locate your audio file. You can easily do this by searching its name in Finder (Mac) or the Start search bar (PC). If it's on your desktop, simply locate the file.
To check file details, perform a two-finger click (Mac) or right-click (PC) on the file.
Click 'Get Info' (Mac) or 'Properties' (PC) to access the file's attributes and size information.
Locate the file's size, typically found under the 'Size' heading. Email providers have varying size restrictions.
Confirm if your file meets the size criteria for direct emailing. Larger files may require alternative methods.
Access your preferred email service on a computer from providers like Gmail, iCloud Mail, Outlook, or Yahoo.
Begin by creating a new email. On Gmail, click 'COMPOSE' in the top-left corner of your inbox. For iCloud Mail, click the pencil-and-square icon. On Outlook, select '+New' above your email list. For Yahoo, click 'Compose'.
Next, add a recipient and a subject. Enter the recipient's email address or name into the 'To' field and add a subject in the field below. While the subject is optional, it provides context for the email.
Now, drag and drop the audio file into your email window. Alternatively, use the paperclip icon to attach the file.
Click 'Send' to deliver your email. Recipients can download the audio file from the email by clicking the 'Download' button or link.
Using Google Drive
Navigate to the Google Drive website by visiting https://www.drive.google.com/. If not signed in, click 'Go to Google Drive' and enter your credentials.
Locate and click the 'NEW' button positioned at the top-left corner of the Google Drive interface.
From the 'NEW' drop-down menu, select 'File upload'. This option is listed near the top of the menu.
Choose your audio file and click 'Open'. If necessary, navigate to the file's location using the left-hand pane.
Once the upload is complete, click on the file to select it.
Click on the 'Share' button, depicted by a person-shaped icon with a '+' sign, located on the top-right corner of the Google Drive interface. This action will prompt a window where you can enter email addresses.
Enter the recipient's email address and press the Tab key. Ensure the email belongs to the intended recipient.
Click on the 'Send' button. This will dispatch a link to the audio file to the specified recipient(s). Upon opening the email, recipients can access the audio file by clicking 'Open' and then downloading it.
Using OneDrive
Visit the Outlook OneDrive website at https://www.onedrive.com/. If not logged in, provide your Outlook email credentials to proceed.
Click on the 'Upload' tab, located near the top of the OneDrive window. This action will trigger a pop-up window to appear. Note: If any files are selected, you won't see this tab. Click your browser's 'Refresh' button to de-select any files.
Select your audio file and click 'Open'. You may need to navigate to the file's location using the left-hand pane. Alternatively, drag and drop your audio file into the OneDrive window.
Wait for your audio file to finish uploading. The duration of this process depends on factors such as file size and Internet speed.
Click on the top-right corner of your audio file to select it.
Locate and click the 'Share' option, situated on the top-left side of the OneDrive toolbar at the top of the page.
Click on 'Email' when prompted. This action will open a window with a field for email addresses.
Enter the recipient's email address and press the Tab key. Ensure the email belongs to the intended recipient.
Click on 'Share'. This will send a link to the audio file to your selected contact(s). Once recipients open the email, they can click 'View in OneDrive' to listen to the track.
Using iCloud Drive
Visit the iCloud website at https://www.icloud.com/. If not logged in, provide your Apple ID email address and password.
Access iCloud Drive, a white app with a blue cloud icon located in the top row of options.
Click on the cloud icon with an upward-facing arrow, situated at the top of the iCloud Drive window.
Select your audio file and click 'Open'. You may need to navigate to the file's location using the left-hand pane. Alternatively, drag and drop your audio file into the iCloud Drive window.
Wait for your audio file to finish uploading, then open it by double-clicking. Since iCloud Drive lacks a 'Share' option, you'll need to manually copy the audio file's URL and send it to your friend.
Click the audio file's URL, the long string of characters in the address bar of your browser's window, to select it.
Perform a two-finger click (Mac) or right-click (PC) on the selected URL to bring up a drop-down menu.
Select 'Copy' to copy the URL.
Navigate to your preferred email service. As you're sharing the URL from outside iCloud Drive, you can paste it into any email from any provider.
Open a new email window. The method may vary depending on your email provider; for instance, on Gmail and Yahoo, click 'COMPOSE', while on Outlook, click 'New'.
Enter the recipient's email address or name (if in contacts) in the 'To' field of the new email window, and add a subject below it. While the subject isn't mandatory, it helps provide context for the email.
Perform a two-finger click (Mac) or right-click (PC) on the email's message window, where you'll paste your URL.
Select 'Paste' to insert your copied URL into the email's body.
Click 'Send' to dispatch your email. The recipient can then click the URL to access the file, where they can download it by clicking the downward-facing arrow on the right side of the file's audio control bar.
Tips
- You can send multiple audio files simultaneously as long as their combined size is within your email provider's maximum upload limit.
