Popup ads on Yahoo! Messenger can be quite bothersome for many users who use Yahoo as a means of communicating with friends.

Method 1: Editing the hosts file on your computer.
Step 1: Open Windows Explorer and navigate to: C:\\Windows\System32\drivers\etc.
Step 2: Right-click on the hosts file, select Open with -> Notepad.
Add the following IP at the end:
127.0.0.1 insider.msg.yahoo.com
127.0.0.1 webapp.msg.yahoo.com
127.0.0.1 tr.adinterax.com
127.0.0.1 mi.adinterax.com/*
127.0.0.1 mi.adinterax.com
127.0.0.1 us.adserver.yahoo.com
127.0.0.1 us.adserver.yahoo.com/*
Then save the hosts file.
Completely exit Yahoo! Messenger from the system tray and log back in.
Method 2: Configure Popup blocking in Internet Options.
Step 1: Go to Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Internet Options.
Step 2: Select the Security tab, choose Restricted sites, and then click the Sites button.
Step 3: In the Restricted sites dialog box, enter the address us.adserver.yahoo.com in the Add this website to the zone box, then click Add. Click Close to close the dialog box.
You can log in to Yahoo! Messenger to check.
Alternatively, you can use popup ad blocking software like AdFender.
