Having used a computer for a long time, do you know how much hard drive capacity you have? You may not know how to check it yet. In this article, Mytour will guide you on how to check your computer's hard drive capacity.
Guide to Check Computer Hard Drive Capacity
Step 1: First, right-click on My Computer and select Manage
Step 2: After a new window appears, click on Disk Management
As shown in the image, under Disk 0, that is your total hard drive capacity. In my case, the computer displays 298.09 GB. And under Capacity, it shows the capacity of your computer's drives.
After checking the results, people may wonder why Windows displays a smaller hard drive capacity than the specification written on the hard drive by the manufacturer. My hard drive is 320GB, but the computer only shows 298.09 GB. The reason is due to the different conventions of GB concept between Windows and hard drive manufacturers.
For hard drive manufacturers, GB = Gigabyte =10003=1,000,000,000 bytes. Whereas for Windows, GB = Gibibyte =10243=1,073,741,824 bytes. Due to this difference, a 320 GB hard drive will be shown as 298GB by Windows, and a 500GB drive will be shown as 465.5 GB.
Here we have guided you on how to check your computer's hard drive capacity with fairly simple steps without needing any supporting software. This helps you know how much disk space you have used or have remaining for proper usage.
