During work, sending data over the network, such as via email, is a common task. To expedite this process, most of us compress files before transmission. While it works well for smaller data, larger compressed files may pose a challenge, especially when email platforms impose data size limits. So, how can you send them? The best approach is to split them into smaller files for multiple transfers.
This article provides a simple 2-step guide on how to split compressed files using Winrar:
Step 1: Right-click on the file you want to compress and select 'Add to Archive'
Step 2: Configure Parameters for Splitting the Compressed File
When the Archive name and parameters window appears, follow these steps:
- Enter the name of the file to be compressed in the Archive name field
- Choose the file format for compression (typically leave it as RAR)
- Specify the size for each compressed file under Split to volumes, bytes (the program provides common sizes by default, you can choose one)
As a result, from an original file, we can now split it into multiple files with desired sizes:
On the recipient's end, after receiving all files, they need to place them in a common folder. Right-click on the first file (with the extension .part1.rar) and select Extract to decompress.
