Razor scooters offer a thrilling way to navigate your neighborhood with style. After a ride, folding them is a breeze thanks to simple release levers. Both regular and Jr. Razor models feature these levers for easy collapsing. If you encounter difficulty, ensure the components are clean and functional. Note that Razor's electric scooters aren't designed to fold, but you can disassemble them by removing the fasteners. Once folded, store your scooter until your next adventure.
Steps
Unlocking the Release Levers

Secure the scooter on the ground with one foot. Keep it stable as you unlock the mechanisms. Place your foot between the wheels on the foot stand, press firmly, and grasp the handlebars to prevent movement. Follow the correct folding procedure to prevent accidental unfolding, and be cautious of your fingers to avoid injury.

Press the release buttons on the handles to extend the grips. Each handlebar features a button located on its backside. When standing behind the scooter, these buttons will be easily accessible. Press one button and pull the nearest grip away from the scooter. Repeat the process for the other grip.
- Most Razor scooters can be folded without detaching the grips. If you encounter any issues, try extending the grips first before folding.
- Razor Jr. scooters, designed for younger children, are simpler to fold. They lack handlebar buttons and a steering column clasp, requiring you to only deal with the final release lever.

Unlock the clasp on the side of the steering column. Locate the circular metal piece halfway down from the handlebars. One side of this lever functions as a clasp that can be pulled away from the scooter.
- If you assembled the scooter yourself, you likely used this quick-release lever to adjust the steering column height for comfortable handlebar positioning.

Lower the steering column as far as it will go. Releasing the clasp allows you to adjust the steering column height. Push down the handlebars with one hand while holding the steering column with the other. The steering column will retract into the scooter's main body. Secure the clasp to lock the steering column in place.
- The tube controls the handlebars' height. When ready to ride, release the clasp and raise the handlebars back up.

Turn the scooter upside down while grasping the steering column. Step off the scooter and invert it while maintaining a firm grip on the handlebars to prevent the steering column from sliding out. You can press the handlebars against the ground or your body to secure the steering column in place.
- If the steering column dislodges, the scooter won't fold correctly. Flip the scooter upright and lower the handlebars again.

Activate the joint-release lever underneath the scooter. While stabilizing the steering column, reach for the joint-release lever with your free hand. This lever is located near the front wheel, close to where the steering column connects to the footpad. Flip the lever to release the locking mechanism, allowing the scooter to fold almost automatically.
- When the scooter is upside down, gravity aids in the folding process. If necessary, push the steering column down toward the footpad to further compact the scooter.
- For folding a Razor Jr., you only need to engage this lever, located on the backside of the steering column directly in front of the footpad.

To unfold the scooter, press the release lever. Hold the scooter and push the quick-release lever toward the footpad. Then, pull the handlebar in the opposite direction to unfold the scooter. Afterward, adjust the steering column to your desired height and lock it in place.
- Unfolding the scooter should be as effortless as folding it. If you encounter difficulties, check the release lever for debris or damage.
Fixing a Stuck Scooter

Pull the joint-release lever completely open to release the steering column. Ensure the latch isn't stuck. When closed, it points downward toward the front wheel. Pull it upward toward the handlebars. If it doesn't fully open, it will hinder the scooter's folding.
- The lever allows the scooter to fold in half and can also prevent it from unfolding if it's locked.

Adjust the handlebars if they obstruct folding. Ensure the handlebars are pulled off the steering column completely. For scooters requiring handlebar movement, they may obstruct the footpad. Press the release buttons on the handlebars firmly, then move them away from the steering column.
- Keep in mind that the handlebars should lay flat against the footpad. If they're facing the footpad during folding, open the steering column clasp to rotate them.

Clean stuck levers with a damp cloth to remove debris. If you're unable to fully open the release lever and steering column clasp, folding the scooter effectively becomes impossible. Dampen a cloth or paper towel with lukewarm water and remove any debris. Test the levers afterward to ensure functionality.
- Avoid using cleaning products not recommended by the manufacturer, as they may damage plastic and decals. Alcohol and ammonia-based products should be avoided.

If you're still unable to fold the scooter, disassemble it for cleaning. Accumulated debris may be hindering movement. Use a 5 mm (0.20 in) allen wrench to remove the steering column by turning the screw counterclockwise. Then, use a 3 mm (0.12 in) allen wrench to remove the screw in the quick-release lever between the footpad and steering column.
- Remember to reassemble the scooter after cleaning. If it seems too complex, contact Razor or take it to a repair shop.

Use an oil-based lubricant to clean the metal components. Spray WD-40 or another cleaner on the levers to restore functionality. Wipe away grime with an old rag. After cleaning, reassemble the scooter and test it. If the levers still don’t work, contact Razor’s support line.
- Only use oil on metal parts to avoid damaging plastic or decals. Clean non-metal components with water.
- You might try lubricating the levers before removing them. Spray oil behind the stuck lever, let it soak for a few minutes, then try operating the lever again.
