During Windows XP installation, the focus is typically on the system drive for installation. Other drives will be formatted and partitioned after Windows XP installation is complete. Windows XP only allows the use of a few keys for operation during installation, which may pose obstacles for non-English speakers.
Nevertheless, by referring to the guide on formatting and partitioning drives when installing Windows XP provided below, obstacles can be quickly overcome.
Guidelines for Formatting and Partitioning Hard Drive During Windows XP Installation
Step 1: At the Welcome to Setup screen, press Enter to continue. You will be directed to the Windows XP Licensing Agreement screen, press F8 to proceed.
Step 2: Windows XP will prompt you to choose the drive to install. In this guide, we are using an unformatted drive, so select C to partition the drive.
Next, enter the required capacity for the system drive. The unit used here is MB, for example, entering 3000 is equivalent to 3GB.
Step 3: Once the system drive is partitioned, move the mouse cursor to the Unpartitioned space and press C to create a storage drive.
If you intend to divide into 2 drives, simply input the maximum value for the remaining drive.
Step 4: Use the arrow keys to navigate to the system drive and press Enter to install.
Step 5: In the next step, select Format the partition using the NTFS file system to format in NTFS format.
So here we've introduced you to how to format and partition drives when installing Windows XP. Actually, after installing Windows XP, we can still partition drives with the integrated Disk Management tool. If you're not sure how to use it, check out how to access disk management that we've provided.
