Step 1: Right-click on This PC/ My Computer and select Manage
Step 2: In the Computer Management window, choose Disk Management to access the disk management tool
Step 3: On the window listing existing partitions on the hard drive, to partition, right-click on any available space and select Shrink Volume…
Step 4: On the Shrink Volume window, you'll see:
Total Size before shrink in MB: Size of the partition before shrinking (in MB)
Size of available space for shrinking in MB: Remaining storage capacity
Specify the new partition size in MB: Input the desired size for the new partition (MB)
Total size after partitioning in MB: Size of the partition after splitting
Enter the desired size for the new partition in Megabytes (1GB = 1024MB) in the field Enter the amount of space to shrink in MB, then select Shrink
Step 5: Return to the Disk Management window. You'll notice a hidden partition alongside the existing system partitions. However, this partition is unformatted. To format it, right-click on the partition and select New Simple Volume...
Step 6: On the partition formatting window, click Next, input the desired size for the partition, and continue by pressing Next
Step 7: If you wish to change the drive letter (A, B, C, D, E, G, H, I, ...), you can do so under Assign the following drive letter. Then, click Next to proceed
Step 8: Choose the format for the partition, either NTFS or FAT32 under File system. Typically, partitions for data storage use NTFS (allows files > 4GB). Also, assign a name to the partition under Volume label
Step 9: Press Finish to complete the setup and wait for the partitioning tool to format the partition for you
After formatting, you can check your new partition in File Explorer
