As mentioned earlier, Facebook Messenger and Instagram now allow users to message each other. In this article, Mytour will guide you on how to message on Messenger through Instagram.
1. Important Requirements
To utilize the joint messaging feature, we must update to the latest version of Instagram Direct.
Additionally, the feature operates in both directions - messaging on Messenger through Instagram and vice versa, as well as messaging on Instagram through Messenger. However, on Instagram, it stands out more as the Direct Message icon has been replaced with the Messenger icon.
Finally, the Messenger messaging feature on Instagram does not function in group chats or pages.
2. Update to the Latest Instagram Direct Version
To update to the latest version of Instagram Direct, follow the steps below:
Note: The following steps apply universally to Instagram for both Android and iOS.
Step 1: First, open the Instagram app on your Android or iOS device and tap the Direct Message icon located in the top right corner as shown below:
Step 2: At this point, a window with a notification to update to Messenger will appear on the screen. Here, you locate and tap on Update .
Step 3: After the process is complete, a notification will appear on the screen stating that Direct Message has been updated. Tap Continue.
Additionally, if you had previously selected the Not now option, the Instagram update process will be slightly different.
All you need to do is tap on your profile picture in the bottom right corner of the screen, then tap on the three horizontal lines in the top right corner, select Settings => Update Messaging => Update.

3. Guide to Messaging on Instagram using Messenger
Step 1: Open the Instagram app on your iOS or Android device and tap on the Messenger icon in the top right corner.
Step 2: Enter the username of the person you want to message in the Search box located at the top corner.
Step 3: When you enter the username, the results will be displayed in various sections below. Select any Facebook username you want to message in the Facebook friends section. In case the username is not found, click on See All to explore more search results on Facebook.
Step 4: A notification will appear on the screen stating that you are messaging a Facebook account. Now you can send messages to your friends and family. The recipient on the other end will also receive a similar notification.
In case the other user is not your friend on Facebook, they will be prompted to 'Accept' the message.
Once again, this method works similarly when messaging someone on Instagram from Facebook Messenger. Simply search for the Instagram account, and both parties will see similar prompts as mentioned above.
This method operates similarly when sending messages to someone on Instagram from Messenger.
