Ban Rak Thai, also known as Mae Aw, is a small village nestled in the highest area of Mae Hong Son province, just about 1km from the Thailand – Myanmar border. This is a village of the Chinese people, so adults here speak only Chinese, while only the younger generation speaks Thai. It is particularly famous for its lush green tea hills.


Surrounding the village are lush green tea hills, interspersed with ancient houses bearing the distinctive architecture of the Chinese. With a cool and tranquil climate, Ban Rak Thai provides visitors with an extraordinarily peaceful and pleasant feeling. When visiting Thailand, going to Ban Rak Thai village, you can stop by a cafe along the way or sip a hot tea by the lake to fully enjoy the romantic beauty of this place.


Due to its secluded location, the village was little known in the past. However, over the past two years, they have started to welcome guests, mostly Thai people.

The breathtaking scenery of lush green hills with serene rivers has turned this place into a magnificent landscape painting, attracting tourists for sightseeing, exploration, and discovery.


Directions to Ban Rak Thai village: To reach the village, from Vietnam you can book a direct flight to Chiang Mai, then take a bus (about 5-6 hours) to Mae Hong Son. Ban Rak Thai is only about 44 km from Mae Hong Son. If starting from Mae Hong Son, just drive on Highway 1095 for about 44 km, with no gas stations along the way, but the scenery on both sides is worth admiring while driving. If starting from Pai, you still have to drive on Highway 1095, passing through Thampla-Phasua National Park, turn right and go straight to Ban Rak Thai.
Additionally, if you choose public transportation, catch the yellow bus departing twice a day from Mae Hong Son market directly to Ban Rak Thai village.
