Wrapping short hair is an effective method to maintain its style overnight. If you want to prevent your short hair from becoming messy and frizzy while you sleep, wrapping is the solution. By properly preparing your hair and using a satin scarf or head wrap, you can wake up with a gorgeous hairstyle. Explore the following tips to learn how to wrap short hair effortlessly.
Steps
Preparing Your Hair
Apply a styling product to your hair after washing it. Begin by following your regular hair care routine, using shampoo and conditioner. Then, rub a small amount of styling product into your hair. Afterward, towel dry your hair until it's slightly damp. Consider using a long, fine-toothed comb to evenly distribute the product throughout your hair, especially if it's straight.
Determine any knots and tangles with a brush or comb. Make sure your hair is knot-free by running a paddle brush or comb through it. Although most of your hair will be covered by a headscarf or wrap, it's essential to eliminate any uncomfortable knots or tangles underneath. Consider using specialized detangling products for a smoother process.
Divide your hair into sections using a brush and hair clips. Use a brush or comb to divide your hair into several large sections. Aim for 4-5 sizable chunks of hair, securing each one with a hair clip. This step facilitates the wrapping process, especially when using a headscarf.
Using a Satin Scarf to Cover Your Head
Flatten the fabric with your fingers to create a single layer. Hold a rectangular headscarf and extend your arms while flattening the fabric. Wrapping becomes easier when the fabric is smooth. Satin is an excellent choice for a headscarf as it minimizes frizz and maintains your hairstyle.
Position the fabric across the center of your forehead. Place the single layer of satin around your head, ensuring the longer edge snugly fits just above your eyebrows. Adjust the scarf as needed to ensure complete coverage and maximum comfort.
Secure both ends of the scarf at the back of your neck. Take the two ends of your scarf hanging down each side of your face and tie them into a loose knot at the nape of your neck. The length of the tied ends doesn’t need to be perfectly even, as long as the scarf is securely fastened over your hair.
Remove any remaining hair clips. Hold the scarf in place with one hand while using the other hand to remove any remaining hair clips. Since the scarf is now tied, there's no risk of large sections of hair coming loose. If you encounter difficulty removing any clips, consider asking for assistance from a friend or family member.
Arrange any stray hairs so they're tucked into the scarf. Use your fingers to push any loose hairs or strands back into the scarf. There's no need to use bobby pins or other small accessories to secure them, as comfort is paramount when sleeping with the scarf. The goal of wrapping is to ensure your short hair remains smooth and stylish while you sleep.
Using a Head Wrap
Position the head wrap behind your ears. Hold a head wrap lengthwise and place it over your head, ensuring it aligns with your ears and fits snugly against the back of your head. If you don't have a head wrap, you can easily find one online or at a local department store.
Slide the middle of the wrap behind your ears and bring the ends forward to your forehead. Secure the wrap by positioning the fabric behind your ears and pulling the ends to the front. This should ensure that the back of the wrap fits snugly against the back of your neck. Check that both ends of the wrap are of equal length by giving them a gentle tug.
Layer another head wrap over the base fabric and fasten it securely. Hold the first head wrap in place with one hand while wrapping a second head wrap around it. Begin wrapping from the back, ensuring the fabric stays close to the back of your neck. Opt for a head wrap with a Velcro strip or other fastening mechanism to hold both wraps in place.
