How to Look Up Food Safety
Nowadays, users can easily check food safety on the VFA lookup system - the Food Safety Department of the Ministry of Health. On this system, besides checking food additives, inspecting veterinary drug residues in food, users can also look up testing facilities designated by the ATTP, register for product advertising confirmation, or apply for, exchange certificates of compliance with food safety conditions for food production and business establishments. Alternatively, you can register to check the acceptance of conformity announcements and obtain certificates of compliance with ATTP regulations.
Follow these steps to access the online food safety lookup system.
Step 1: Access the VFA lookup system directly HERE
Step 2: Upon successful access, the interface will display as shown in the image below. Users will choose the appropriate system to perform the lookup:

(1) Food Additives Lookup System:
Using this system, users can lookup specific information such as:
- Search: Using this function, users will search for the name of the additive by entering keywords, either in English or Vietnamese. Users follow the instructions to get a list of additives, then see detailed regulations for the additives in the food group they are looking for. For example, if you search for Aluminum ammonium sulfate. You enter 'Aluminum' in the search box -> click the arrow -> you will see a list of additives with 'Aluminum' -> then you select Aluminum ammonium sulfate and read the information to understand more.
- List of additive groups: Users selecting this function will see a list of groups of additive substances categorized alphabetically 'A, B, C...'. Next, you can choose the additive substance you want to find as well as regulations on the maximum limit for this additive in food products.
- List of additives by INS: INS stands for International Numbering System, which is a numbering system for each additive set by the International Food Standards Commission. This function will provide a list of all additives in INS order including names (in English and Vietnamese). Click on the additive you want to look up -> the result will show the maximum limit regulations for each food product.
- List of product groups: When using this function, you will have information by product group including 16 groups, in each product group will be further divided into specific food products. Click on the product you need to look up -> the result will provide information on additives and maximum limits prescribed for this food product.
(2) Veterinary Drug Residue Lookup System in Food:
This is a system to lookup veterinary drug residues in food. Users click on this link will be automatically directed to the VFA's drug residue lookup system. Follow the system instructions to retrieve information.
(3) Designated Testing Facilities by the ATTP
Users clicking here will see a list of facilities designated for testing to serve state management on food safety like the interface in the image below:
(4) Registration for Advertisement Content Confirmation for Food Products
After users click here, you will be linked to the advertisement confirmation page as shown in the interface below:
Here, users only need to follow 4 steps to receive the advertisement dossier including: Registering a business account, Logging in and submitting online applications, Submitting online appraisal fees, and Submitting fees for issuing numbers and receiving online dossier processing results.
(5) Issuing, Exchanging Certificates of Compliance for Food Safety Conditions for Food Production and Business Establishments
Clicking on this section will take you to the VFA's facility certification system.
Here, you can register a business account if not done yet, log in, and then proceed to issue or exchange food safety compliance certificates online.
(6) System for Issuing Acceptance of Compliance Declarations and Confirmation Certificates in accordance with ATTP Regulations
When clicking on this section, the interface of the Product Declaration system will appear as shown in the image below:
At this system, users also perform similar operations as above, which is Registering a business account if not done yet, then Logging in -> submitting online applications -> submitting appraisal fees -> finally submitting number issuance fees and receiving online application processing results.
