The 2019 Heroic Military Writing Competition, introduced by the People's Army Newspaper on March 19, aims to commemorate the 30th National Defense Day and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People's Army. It celebrates the outstanding achievements and benevolent actions of Uncle Ho's armed forces.
Guidelines for the Heroic Military Writing Competition
I. ELIGIBLE PARTICIPANTS
Professional journalists, information correspondents, contributors, and readers both within and outside the military.
II. CONTENT, REQUIREMENTS, MEDIA GENRES
1. Content
- Commend and highlight the glorious traditional values of the Vietnam People's Army; promote the traditions and strength of the people's army in building a strong national defense and protecting the homeland; preserve and promote the noble qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new era.
- Reflect in a rich and vivid manner the profound results of the leadership and command work in military tasks, national defense by the Party, State, Central Military Party Committee, Ministry of National Defense, and the General Political Department; the achievements in building a revolutionary, disciplined, skilled, and modern People's Army; the outcomes of participating in building the grassroots political system, maintaining political stability, and ensuring social order and safety in the stationed areas.
- Discover, encourage, and disseminate effective experiences and models of officers and soldiers in building the army, constructing the grassroots political system, and safeguarding the homeland; actively participate in building the political foundation, developing the socio-economic aspect, and strengthening national defense and security in strategic, remote, deep, and ethnic minority areas.
- Reflect the activities of military units involved in helping the people eradicate hunger and reduce poverty, building cultural life, taking care of the people's health, preventing and mitigating the consequences of natural disasters, and promoting the movement 'The military joins forces to build new rural areas.'
- Commend and honor the collectives and individuals in the military who strive to overcome challenges, employing innovative and effective methods in all work domains.
- Criticize the conspiracies and destructive actions of hostile forces aiming to 'politicize the military', tarnish and distort the traditions of the military and the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers, and deny the achievements in building the national defense.
2. Requirements for submitted works
- Ensure accuracy and persuasiveness.
- The issues raised in the article must be real, based on actual events, with clear addresses; exemplary individuals, models, achievements, and results of collectives and individuals from December 22, 2014, to the present.
- Specialized articles should provide clear citations to ensure authenticity.
3. Journalism genres
- Reflective, observational, reportage, and specialized articles.
- Submitted works can be a single article or a series (up to 5 articles) with a common theme and journalism genre. Each article should not exceed 2,000 words.
- Works falling under the categories of reportage, observation, reflection, typical portraits, good people, and good deeds must include illustrative images.
III. TIMING
1. Submission Period: From March 2019 to December 22, 2019 (based on the email submission timestamp or the postmark date outside the envelope).
2. Evaluation and Award Ceremony
The evaluation and award ceremony will take place on the occasion of commemorating the 30th National Defense Day and the 75th anniversary of the establishment of the Vietnam People's Army (December 22, 2019).
IV. AWARD STRUCTURE
The award structure comprises numerous valuable prizes, including 1 special prize, 1 first prize, 3 second prizes, 5 third prizes, and 15 encouragement prizes.
V. SUBMISSION METHOD
1. Each author can submit an unlimited number of entries for the competition.

3. High-quality submissions will be selected and published in various publications of the People's Army Newspaper (daily newspaper, weekend newspaper, Event and Witness Magazine, electronic newspaper).
Works published in the People's Army Newspaper will be remunerated according to the current policy.
Submitted works must not violate Press Law, Intellectual Property Law, have no copyright disputes, and have not been published in other media outlets.
Author information should include full name, pen name (if any), address, profession, and contact phone number.
The organizers do not refund the submitted entries to the authors.
