5. The Hunted Limits
The Hunted Limits depicts the journey of a undercover female police officer chasing kidnappers, putting her own son in danger as her identity may be exposed. The film delivers not only thrilling chases, spectacular action scenes but also a suspenseful mental duel between the two main factions - good and evil.
The Hunted Limits is based on the famous novel Kiroi Jou by Hisashi Nozawa, a Japanese screenwriter and novelist known for the film Violent Cop (1989) directed by Takeshi Kitano. When adapted into a movie, director Lee Seung Joon combined materials from various sources on real kidnapping cases in South Korea to create a film that is both cinematic and reflects real-life events.
South Korean actress Lee Jung Hyun plays police officer Yoon So Eun, who volunteers to play the mother of a kidnapped girl demanding a ransom of 300 million Won. Every move of the criminals is carefully calculated, making the female protagonist face unpredictable situations. This balance creates a captivating atmosphere, leveling the playing field between the two main factions - good and evil, a feat that previous films often struggled with as the main characters were either too overpowering, or the criminals were too predictable.
Action and crime remain the dominant elements that make The Hunted Limits attractive. Alongside heavy investment in setting, special effects, and breathtaking action scenes, the cast had to undergo intense physical training before filming. Many scenes were meticulously planned, minimizing the use of stunt actors. In addition, the sound department received advice from top Hollywood experts to match the tense atmosphere throughout the film, providing the most immersive experience for viewers.
