Hackers have acquired 200GB of medical data, threatening to release medical records of numerous celebrities in Australia.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, a group of hackers claims to have obtained personal data from Australia's largest private health insurer, Medibank. They have demanded ransom from the victim, stating they will expose information of many famous individuals in the country if not paid.

With what the hacker group has revealed, they currently possess 200GB of data from Medibank. The company currently has nearly 4 million customers, which is a significant number compared to Australia's population of approximately 25 million people. In addition to medical records, there are concerns that they have also accessed credit card information.

The extortion message indicates that if no agreement is reached, they will sell the database to a third party. Prior to that, they will gather personal information from a list of the top one thousand internet celebrities, including those with the highest number of followers, politicians, actors, bloggers, LGBT activists, drug addicts... and send this information to these individuals to confirm that their information is no longer secure.

It is known that Medibank has reported a network incident on October 13, but claims there is no evidence that this information has been stolen and has notified Australia's cybersecurity center. The company has apologized to customers affected by the security breach but has not commented on the hacker group's threats. Australia is considered a country with very poor defense capabilities against cyber attacks. Just last month, Australia's second largest telecommunications company, Optus, was attacked, exposing personal information such as driver's licenses through a common API on the internet.
