Route
There are multiple routes to reach Ham Lon Mountain. You can follow the map below:
Map of the route to Ham Lon Mountain from Hanoi
Departing from central Hanoi, cross Thang Long Bridge and proceed along Thang Long - Noi Bai expressway until reaching the intersection with National Highway 2. Then, turn left towards Vinh Phuc direction.
Next, turn onto the road leading to Thanh Chuong Citadel (Provincial Route 135 (35)).
Continue straight for another 7km until reaching a right turn guiding towards the Citadel.
If aiming for Ham Lon Mountain, continue straight without turning right as shown in the picture until encountering a sign guiding into this path. You are now facing the trail leading to Ham Lon Mountain.
The path ahead is the longest route, taking approximately 3 hours on foot. It is quite rugged and challenging, suitable for hiking or cycling, but not recommended for motorcycles due to increasingly narrow and difficult terrain.
If hesitant, instead of taking this trail, continue straight towards Nỉ Town direction from the blue signpost. After an additional 1.5km, you will reach a trail branching off towards the dam and lake of Bau stream located beneath Ham Lon Mountain. This is the shortest route up the mountain, taking about 1.5 hours on foot.
This narrow path lies on the left side of the road, lacking any directional signs. It sits opposite a small shop specializing in adventure gear rentals and camping, boasting a prominently displayed sign by the roadside, easily visible.
The total travel time from downtown Hanoi to the trail leading to Ham Lon Mountain/Bau Spring by motorcycle takes around 1-1.5 hours. The road is straight and wide, making it highly accessible.
