In 1997, a year after becoming a centrally governed city, the Han River Bridge in Da Nang was commenced, a project with significant and groundbreaking implications for the city's infrastructure!
Han River Bridge in Da Nang – Emblem of the most livable city in Vietnam
The Han River Bridge in Da Nang is not only a structure celebrating the third millennium but also a landmark marking a major transformation of Da Nang city, symbolizing the upward aspirations of the city's people in the new era.
After liberation, Da Nang had only one Nguyen Van Troi Bridge to facilitate the movement of the residents. To reach the city center, residents of Son Tra district had to take a ferry. The people eagerly anticipated having a bridge for more convenient and faster commuting.
To fulfill the aspirations of the people, the government and the community joined hands to build the swing bridge. Thus, the Han River Bridge in Da Nang
The Han River Bridge transforms into the first and only swing bridge designed and built by Vietnamese engineers and workers. The bridge spans 487.7m, is 12.9m wide, consists of 11 spans, each 33m long, with a structure of prestressed concrete and steel reinforcement and two cable-stayed spans totaling 122.7m.
The ferry terminal has now been replaced by a new swing bridge constructed through the contributions of the people, becoming an emblem of Da Nang's aspirations. The image of the Han River Bridge stretching across the river exudes modern beauty, marking the city's development and embodying the primitive memories of Da Nang's early challenging days.
The Han River Bridge is designed to rotate to facilitate the passage of boats, serving waterway traffic. Around midnight, the middle section of the bridge will rotate 90 degrees around its axis and align with the river's flow, opening the way for large boats to pass through. Around 4 a.m. the next morning, the bridge will return to its original position.
Today, as fewer large boats traverse, the bridge rotation has decreased, mainly serving maintenance work. The Han River Bridge has sparked the economic potential of a large area east of the city, serving as a unique cultural icon and a source of pride for Da Nang.
Over time, Da Nang has solidified its position in the hearts of both domestic and international tourists. The number of visitors to the city is steadily increasing, and alongside other famous tourist spots in the city, admiring the Han River Bridge in Da Nang at night is also fascinating, attracting the attention of many sightseers.
After the milestone set by the Han River Bridge, Da Nang has gradually become the 'city of bridges,' with various other bridges such as the Dragon Bridge, Thuan Phuoc Bridge, Tran Thi Ly Bridge... However, perhaps the Han River Bridge still plays a crucial role in the hearts of Da Nang's residents and visitors.
