Hands-on experience with Grandstream GUV3100 and GVC3212 for online meetings
Buzz
From the beginning of the year until now, there has been a significant increase in the demand for virtual meetings and online discussions via video calls. This not only ensures safety during the pandemic but also saves costs and time. Services like Facebook, Google, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, etc., have enhanced their features. In addition, there is a growing interest in meeting hardware. In this article, I had the opportunity to borrow two online meeting devices from the folks at Tongdai.com.vn. One connects to the computer, and the other can operate independently through IPvideotalk.com, requiring only a wired or wireless network to hold a meeting. Let me share this experience with you. With simplicity in design, setup, and operation, this pair of Grandstream online conferencing solutions provides users with a convenient and stable tool for organizing meetings, online conferences, and more.First up is the Grandstream GUV3100 camera, operating much like traditional webcams, delivering high-quality 1080p video recording. To set up this device, simply unfold the compact stand and place it on the top edge of the monitor you want to monitor. Along with that, the main camera unit can adjust the viewing angle when the clamp is securely fixed in the desired position.Grandstream also equips the GUV3100 with a standard 1/4'-20 mounting hole commonly found on professional cameras for attaching a monopod/tripod, suitable for cases where mounting on the monitor is not necessary. In terms of connectivity, the Grandstream GUV3100 uses an attached cable with a signal-resistant head, leading to a USB-A connection standard. Therefore, connecting to a computer for use will be quick and convenient.Compared to the GUV3100 version, the Grandstream GVC3212 has a more specialized design, notably with the addition of an Ethernet port for independent operation in the LAN without relying on a specific device. What users need to do is plug the HDMI connection into a display such as a monitor or projector to transmit the content captured by the webcam. Additionally, the Grandstream GVC3212 is equipped with extra ports like USB-A and a 3.5mm audio jack for external system use. With these features, the Grandstream GVC3212 requires an external 12V power source through the DC port for operation. The user-friendly design of GVC3212 mirrors that of GUV3100, featuring easy connections to accessory tripods and convenient clamping onto computer monitors or large TVs.For standalone operation, the Grandstream GVC3212 comes equipped with pre-installed control software supporting conference call features. It seamlessly connects to various services, allowing multiple participants in a meeting through ID codes, with a maximum of 32 attendees. The protocol utilized by Grandstream for this device is known as IPVideotalk. These devices will establish connections and initiate meetings by connecting to the intermediary server of the service provider. As a specialized device, the Grandstream GVC3212 supports remote control with integrated buttons for quick and convenient operations. For those interested, the Grand Stream brand offers additional products catering to various user needs and meeting scales, such as:Grandstream GVC3210Explore the features of Grandstream GVC3200Discover the capabilities of Grandstream GVC3220
