Today, I updated my Pixel 4 to Android 12 beta 5, the latest beta version and practically the last version before Google releases the official version with the Pixel 6 in the upcoming weeks. With Android 12 beta 5, I didn't anticipate new features or significant interface changes since it's nearly 99% complete. However, Google managed to introduce changes that I find quite significant. Let me share them with you below.Lockscreen Redefined
From the lock screen in this beta 5 release, Google introduces an additional shortcut for quick access to users' smart home controls, making it easier for us to interact with our smart homes. Additionally, on this lock screen, I notice that notifications have been slightly redesigned, with a bit more rounded look, giving it an overall smoother appearance.Homescreen Revamped

Moving on to the main screen, Google officially introduces new clock widgets that we first glimpsed during the Android 12 reveal at Google I/O. Alongside the new analog clock widget, Google also adds various digital clock widgets.New Clock App
The Google Clock app has been redesigned with the new Material You language in this latest version 7.0, completely transforming the interface from the previous Clock app.New Calculator App
Moving on to the Calculator app, Google has given it a redesign, incorporating the Material You interface.Enhanced Universal Search
Previously teased by Google, a more powerful search tool for Android is now deployed on Android 12 beta 5, known as Universal Search.
With Universal Search, users will have a more powerful search tool, discovering more than just internet searches through Google Search. It enables searching for features and components within the phone, similar to iOS Spotlight. Google implements Universal Search within the Android 12 app drawer, accessible by swiping up from the middle of the screen. Users also have the option to always display or hide the keyboard when invoking Universal Search.New Nearby Share Experience
The interface of Nearby Share has also undergone a fresh redesign, adopting the new Material You language for a more appealing and intuitive look.Above are the recent changes I discovered in Android 12 beta 5, along with some small additions like the Easter egg 'Paint Chips,' showcasing the color material palettes used in Android 12.
Regarding battery life, I haven't used it long enough for a comprehensive assessment. However, my Pixel 4 doesn't have an exceptionally long-lasting battery. With previous beta versions, I found myself needing to charge twice a day. I suspect the official release won't see significant improvements. Let's eagerly await the official Android 12 launch alongside the Pixel 6 to see if there are any notable enhancements.
