Tecno pays great attention to its flagship product, presenting it in an impressive box design. Upon opening the box, you'll find the phrase 'Beyond The Extraordinary'. Inside, there are accompanying accessories including a 45W fast charger, USB-A to Type-C charging cable, and a unique phone case.
In terms of design, the Phantom V Fold boasts a slim and lightweight profile compared to other foldable phones on the market, with a thickness of only about 14.5mm when folded. The entire frame is crafted from sturdy aluminum. The outer screen of the device is gently curved for a better touch and grip experience.
On the right side of the device, you'll find the volume buttons and power button with an embedded fingerprint sensor, neatly integrated into the edge.
At the top edge, you'll find speaker and mic holes, while the bottom edge houses the charging port, SIM card tray, and an additional speaker port.
Phantom V Fold features an impressive back design with faux leather material, providing a pleasant touch with its textured surface. This design brings a secure grip, reducing sweat and fingerprint marks. However, without thorough cleaning, it's prone to staining and dirt buildup over time.
The feel of holding and using is quite pleasant, though with a weight of up to 299 grams, prolonged usage for watching movies or gaming might cause slight hand fatigue. Overall, the design of the Phantom V Fold is decent, with high levels of craftsmanship.
The camera cluster design further enhances the overall rear appearance of the Phantom V Fold, with a black glass block, and an additional layer of glass encasing the main camera inside. It evokes thoughts of astronomical lenses seen in science fiction movies. The screen is a highlight of the Phantom V Fold's design, with the external display measuring 6.42 inches featuring LTPO AMOLED panel, a resolution of 2,550 x 1,080 pixels, and a pixel density of 431 ppi. The screen has a refresh rate of 10-120Hz, with a maximum brightness of 1,100 nits. The secondary screen bezels of the device are relatively thin and curved to one side, protected by a layer of Gorilla Glass Victus.
The screen design of the device is notably not overly long but mimics that of conventional smartphones with a 21.3:9 aspect ratio. Hence, the user experience is significantly enhanced, operating akin to a regular phone without encountering difficulties.Learn more: Nearly a month with TECNO SPARK 10 Pro: So many advantages at just over 3 million VNDThe main inner screen measures 7.85 inches, also featuring an LTPO AMOLED panel, with a resolution of 2296 x 2000 pixels for a pixel density of 388 ppi. The display quality of the main screen is sharp and boasts high saturation, though the device's brightness is not highly rated for outdoor use.
I quite favor the device's foldable screen for delivering good quality with extremely subtle folds. When viewed head-on, with minimal light shining on it, I hardly notice these folds. However, this constitutes a double-edged sword with the device's folding mechanism. To achieve this fold-free screen, the device has the limitation of a weak hinge, incapable of opening at multiple angles. You can only open it at a 180-degree angle or fold it slightly at a 90-degree angle, unable to fold and maintain it at various angles.
Regarding the camera, the Phantom V Fold is equipped with a triple camera setup, including a 50 MP main camera with an f/1.9 aperture, phase detection autofocus; a 50 MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom, and a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle camera. The device supports 4K 30FPS video recording. The selfie camera on the secondary screen is 32 MP, while the main screen camera is 16 MP.
Image quality on the Phantom V Fold, based on my experience, is quite satisfactory, producing sharp images. The device handles HDR well, white balance is decent, colors are vibrant, and there's good depth of field. The performance of the Phantom V Fold is robust with the Dimensity 9000+ chipset, capable of meeting users' highest demands. The device is equipped with a 5,000mAh battery. Additionally, with the integration of 45W fast charging, the device can fully charge in just 60 minutes.
Regarding software, the Phantom V Fold will run Android 13 based on the HiOS Fold 13 interface. Tecno also claims to customize the software interface to optimize for various screen usage modes like split-screen and multitasking. The software experience is smooth, and the device operates relatively stable, providing a similar experience to other foldable phones.
