Hands-On with VinFast's Electric Pickup, VF Wild, at CES 2024
VinFast has officially unveiled the Concept VF Wild, its inaugural electric vehicle, at CES 2024 in Las Vegas. This vehicle stands out with a futuristic design language, delivering a robust yet modern aesthetic. Upon closer inspection, the interior evokes a Mytour-like sensation—spacious and adventurous in exterior design.Currently lacking comprehensive technical specifications, this mid-size pickup measures a total length of 5,324mm, featuring a well-balanced and symmetrical design. The VinFast VF Wild could emerge as a completely new choice, serving as a plaything for electric vehicle enthusiasts seeking something unique, different, and bold.At first glance, VF Wild presents robust and muscular lines, especially the raised bonnet with prominent contours. The daytime running light system forms a familiar V-shape, complemented by the illuminated V logo at the center.VinFast VF Wild has a total length of 5,324 mm and a width of 1,997 mm. The external appearance suggests that VF Wild will be a compact and versatile pickup, similar in size to the majority of pickups in Southeast Asia or Vietnam. As a Concept version, many details are currently at a basic design level and may not represent the final designs or features on the commercial version when VinFast releases it. However, envisioning an electric pickup from VinFast reveals a rugged and distinctive vehicle, setting it apart from some electric pickup models from other brands in the market. With 22-inch alloy wheels and substantial running boards, the VinFast VF Wild offers the necessary elements for a versatile pickup, complete with a large-sized chassis for flexibility. The VinFast VF Wild is designed as a single-cabin vehicle, omitting the B-pillar, yet it accommodates two rows of seats with reverse-opening doors, providing ample space for rear passengers and comfortable ingress and egress.
The second-row seats are flexibly foldable to expand cargo space, and the power-operated folding mechanism is particularly space-efficient. The floor beneath is entirely flat, and the uniquely designed seats maximize space utilization. The entire upper door glass features seamless frameless glass, creating a beautiful and modern appearance. The door panels are intricately designed, predominantly wrapped in leather combined with decorative details.VinFast logo on the door.VinFast Wild uses electronic rearview mirrors, featuring two display screens on both A-pillars inside the vehicle. The rear of the vehicle is perhaps the most impressive. It exhibits a unique design reminiscent of a superhero's cape with intricate folds and layered textures. The VinFast VF Wild employs a distinctive color scheme, combining matte black accents with the vehicle's paint color for contrast, creating a three-dimensional, sculpted appearance.Inside the cargo bed, once the partition is opened and the rear seats folded, this becomes the maximum cargo space when needed. However, I believe in commercial use, this model will rarely require maximizing cargo space in this manner. This is when the cabin partition is closed as usual, and the window panel can be raised/lowered similar to a door window.Inside the interior of the VinFast VF Wild, there are distinct segmented areas. While this style exudes luxury, it lacks a bit of a flat interface and does not achieve the openness found in the two front seats. The VinFast VF Wild features a large, low-set central display screen, with additional slim side screens on the left and right. These side screens may serve as displays for essential notifications, different from the usual comprehensive multi-information displays. The compactly designed steering wheel features integrated buttons, providing a practical grip that aligns well with the arrangement of screens for a comfortable viewing experience. The screen for displaying rearview mirror information. The central armrest is elegantly elevated, housing controls for gear shifting, suspension adjustment buttons, and various other functional keys. The roof of the VinFast VF Wild is remarkably unique, with the front glass seamlessly extending upward, forming a V-shaped windscreen. When seated, the front view is incredibly expansive. The rear also features glass on both sides to create an open atmosphere, and I hope the production version will have an operable sunroof. The VinFast VF Wild remains a Concept model, and VinFast has not disclosed much information about the commercial release or the actual specifications. However, based on VinFast's past practices, it is highly likely that this vehicle will be commercially available and quickly launched worldwide in the near future.
