Three energetic moms took their little ones on a trip, exhausted but thrilled with many exciting experiences.
Hanoi Mom Takes Child on Day Trip to Explore Haiphong
Ms. Minh Thu, 34, an office worker in Hanoi, recently embarked on a Haiphong adventure with her child in early March. The journey included three young mothers and four children (three boys and one girl, aged 5 to 9). Since the children had never traveled by train before, Ms. Thu chose this mode of transportation from Hanoi.

The Haiphong adventure itinerary for the group included Hanoi – Do Son – Bao Dai Mansion – Hon Dau Resort (Hon Dau Island) – Hon Dau Island – Do Market – Co Dao Market.
At 5 a.m., three families were present at Tran Quy Cap Station to prepare for the 6 a.m. train departure. Everyone enjoyed pre-prepared meals from home on the train, then rested to prepare for the Haiphong adventures. The train ticket price was 85,000 VND per person, with a 10% discount for round-trip tickets until March 31st.

At 8:20 AM, the train arrived at Hai Phong station. Subsequently, the entire group hailed a taxi to Do Son at a cost of 100,000 VND, equivalent to the bus fare for the entire party. The first destination the young mothers took their children to was Bao Dai King's Mansion. The entrance fee was 20,000 VND for adults and 10,000 VND for children.
According to Ms. Thu, the atmosphere here is fresh, and there is a sea view in every direction. The children were running, jumping, and exploring. Then, Ms. Thu took the children to play by the sea but they did not swim.
The group then took another taxi to Hon Dau Resort, about one kilometer from the King's Mansion. The entrance fee was 30,000 VND for adults and 10,000 VND for children. This place is known as a 'mini Dalat'. The four children loved this space because it had a zoo, many games, and miniature landscapes. After visiting, everyone had lunch together.
Lunch consisted of small items brought from Hanoi by Ms. Thu, such as sandwiches, butter, milk, pate, pastries, bottled water, and fruit. After eating, she let the children rest until 1:00 PM before taking them to Hon Dau Island by boat. At this time, it was festival season, so the island was crowded with tourists. Most people went to the island for worship, so the boats were packed. The children enjoyed the boat ride and were all very excited.
On the island, everyone went to watch the mediumship ritual at the Temple of Hai Vuong Deity, and climbed up the lighthouse to explore (ticket price: 6,000 VND for adults, children are free). The four young guests were very excited about this activity, so they climbed the lighthouse without needing to be carried by their mothers.
Ms. Thu said that the decision to visit Hon Dau Island was right because the sea here is clean, beautiful, and clear, with fresh air. The boat ticket was 90,000 VND, and children were free of charge.

After 3:00 PM, the group boarded the train back to the mainland and then took a taxi back to the city. Here, everyone seized the opportunity to visit Do Market and Co Dao Market. Co Dao Market is described as a 'food paradise' with a variety of dishes. Ms. Thu mentioned that every dish here is delicious, so everyone wanted to try them all. A bowl of crab noodles costs 50,000 VND. People also ordered other dishes such as jellyfish, chicken feet salad, water fern cake, chicken cartilage... The group arrived at the station to catch the train at 6:30 PM and returned to Hanoi a little after 9:00 PM.
Ms. Thu's Hai Phong trip with her children, although tiring, brought joy to everyone. After returning from the trip, the four young travelers kept telling their mothers: “Mom, let’s go again tomorrow”. The total cost of this trip for each family was 600,000 VND (including both mother and child).
Due to the frequent and extensive travel itinerary, Ms. Thu advises families intending to take their children on trips to wait until the children are older, around 5 years old or older, which would be more suitable. Parents should also prepare extra clothes for their children because they will get dirty and wet from playing in the water and sand on the beach.
