Hardwipe is currently a powerful data erasure program, it uses file deletion mode by overwriting, data deleted will not be recoverable. To learn how to use Hardwipe, please follow the steps below.
How to delete data from a computer using Hardwipe
Step 1: Download and install Hardwipe on your computer.
Step 2: After successfully installing the software, you set the erase mode on Hardwipe by going to Tools -->
- Switch to the Wipe Options tab, in the Default Scheme section allows you to choose erase modes:
+ Zero Overwrite (1 pass): Delete data by overwriting once
+ GOST R 50739-95 (2 pass): Delete data by overwriting twice
+ DOD 5220.22-M (3 pass): Delete data by overwriting three times
+ Schneier (7 pass): Delete data by overwriting seven times
+ Gutmann (35 pass): Delete data by overwriting thirty-five times
It is recommended to use DOD 5220.22-M (3 pass), when deleting data will overwrite 3 times so data recovery software will find it difficult to recover data deleted by software. If you choose a method of deleting data with fewer overwrites, the deletion time will be faster but less effective than the method of deleting data with multiple overwrites. Gutmann (35 pass) is still considered quite effective but the deletion time is very long.
Step 3: Delete data with Hardwipe, right-click on the file, folder you want to delete and select Wipe File, the deletion process is very fast. And the file, folder you just selected has been deleted from the computer.
- However, to delete these data more thoroughly, on the software interface you go to Free Space. A window appears, you select the drive (this drive contains the data you just deleted) and press OK. With this operation, you will completely remove the data and the space created when deleting data on the computer.
