Sharing a Printer over LAN
Sharing a printer is usually done on a server directly connected to the printer via USB. Once the sharing is successfully set up on the server, other devices can then install the printer over the LAN.
Step 1: Open the Run dialog by pressing Windows key + R, type “Control” into the box, then hit Enter to open Control Panel.
Step 2: Click on “Hardware and Sound”.
Step 3: Once Control Panel is open, select “Devices and Printers”, a new window will appear showing the printers you have connected and are currently connected.
Step 4: Right-click on the connected printer , click on “Set as default printer” to set the printer as default.
Step 5: Next, right-click on the printer again and select “Printer Properties”.
Step 6: Switch to the Sharing tab when the new dialog box appears, check “Share this printer”, then click “OK”. Your computer has now started sharing the printer with other devices.
Step 7: Go back to Control Panel, open “Network and Internet” and select “Network and Sharing Center”.
Step 8: A new window appears with categories on the left-hand side, click on “Change advanced sharing settings”.
Step 9: Under the Private section, check “Turn on network discovery” and “Turn on file and printer sharing”.
Step 10: Scroll down to the All networks section, check “Turn off password protected sharing” because if left on, other computers will need a password to connect. Press “Save changes” once done.
How to Set Up a LAN Printer
Once the printer sharing setup is complete on the server, now we'll proceed on another computer to connect the printer over the LAN.
Step 1: Open Control Panel, go to “Hardware and Sound”, then select “Devices and Printers”.
Step 2: In this window, you select “Add a printer” to let the computer scan for connected devices.
Step 3: Your computer might not detect the printer you want to connect to. Click on “The printer that I want isn’t listed” below the window to have the computer scan on another device.
Step 4: In the next window, you choose “Select a shared printer by name”, then press “Browse” to find devices on the LAN.
Step 5: Next, a new window appears with the server name, double-click on that server. Click “Next” for the computer to scan and install the printer driver.
Once the driver installation is complete, simply press “Next” and “Finish” to complete the printer setup for the computer over LAN!

Setting up a LAN printer has now become simpler and more convenient than ever. Not only does it save you time, but it also optimizes your workflow and enhances productivity.
