Tam thất root prefers shade and moist environments, growing in high mountainous regions above 1500m. Even in winter, when temperatures drop below 0 degrees Celsius, the root still survives. In Vietnam, this plant is cultivated in small quantities in Ha Giang, Lao Cai, Cao Bang, Son La, Lai Chau, and other areas.
In traditional Chinese medicine prescriptions, tam thất root is used as the primary herbal remedy for conditions related to blood stasis, nourishing blood, pain relief, and dispelling blood stasis very effectively.
Also in the Vietnamese pharmacopoeia, tam thất root is beneficial in treating conditions such as blood stasis, bleeding disorders, blood stagnation, etc. Additionally, tam thất root treats swelling, fatigue, headaches, eye floaters, dizziness, insomnia, and restless sleep.
Tam thất root consists of two main components: saponin and flavonoid. Saponin is an important nutrient in tam thất root that helps reduce swelling and relieve pain. Saponin produces a compound that affects the nervous system, immune system, and endocrine system differently in each organ of the body. Moreover, flavonoid is also an important component present in tam thất root, helping to enhance immunity, slow down cell aging, and reduce pain and inflammation.
